Transport Arrangements for Fair Isle PS

PARENTS at Fair Isle Primary School in Kirkcaldy are being reminded about special arrangements to transport pupils to temporary schools from the start of term.
Fair Isle Primary is one of the schools to be rebuilt in a programme of investment in new schools across the Kingdom. The old school building was emptied at the end of June and is expected to be demolished within the next two months.
While arrangements for the new school and its construction are ongoing, the 240 pupils will attend classes at nearby schools. Primary 1 to 4 pupils willl have their own classes at Kirkcaldy North Primary School as will Primary 5 to 7 pupils who will attend Capshard Primary.
Fair Isle Headteacher, Rae Walker said:'' This will be a challenging time in the life of Fair Isle, but we're all keeping our eye on the fact that this is a temporary arrangement until our brand new school building opens. We're hoping parents will work with us to make it as smooth an arrangement as possible.
''Before we finished for the summer holidays, we gave parents extensive information on decant arrangement including colour coded leaflets outlining which colour bus shelter and bus each child should be using.
''There are 10 new bus shelters as well as the large brick shelter in the playground.
''Parents have been advised that buses will be boarding pupils from 8.50am and hope to leave for Capshard and Kirkcaldy North Primaries around 9am. Parents should make sure children arrive just before they are due to board their buses.
''There will be seats with seatbelts on the buses for every child. A team of staff will be on hand to supervise the pupils during their journey and an extra crossing patrol attendant will be appointed to help ensure the chidren's safety on Fair Isle Road. We'll be doing everything possible to make sure the daily transport arrangements run smoothly and we ask for parents co-operation to achieve this.
''I'd also like to extend my thanks to everyone at Kirkcaldy North and Capshard for sharing their school with us. The classrooms we have are great and I'm sure the pupils will enjoy their time at the new schools.''
To allow teachers to put the finishing touches to classrooms and unpack their teaching resources at the new schools, pupils from Fair Isle will return one day later on Wednesday 18th August. Mrs Walker and Mrs Cooles' surgeries will start the week beginning 30th August.
On Wednesday18th, Thursday19th and Friday20th parents of new primary one pupils are being invited to travel with their children on the buses so they can see their children settle in their classrooms.
Rae Walker added:''This is something we always set up for parents of our new pupils and we were keen to make sure this year was no different - even if we are at Kirkcaldy North.''
Arrangements to transport pupils between the Fair Isle site and the new schools will be kept under review.
