An exciting major refurbishment project is now complete at Carnegie Leisure Centre in Dunfermline which has delivered a modern, state of the art leisure centre, behind a unique Edwardian façade.
This includes the upgrade of the entrance and reception area, a new café next to a purpose built play centre, a new communal wet side changing area and health suite with integrated steam room, sauna, hot room and spa bath.
The Edwardian features around the original pool have been retained but within the space a modern 25 metre, 6 lane swimming pool with underwater movable floor has replaced the 25 yard pool. The facility now boasts two purpose built aerobics studios and a new gym with 85 stations, a circuit gym and all other areas (such as the main swimming pool, toddler pool, sports hall, squash courts and dry changing facilities) have been extensively refurbished.
The refurbishment and restoration project has won the Promoting Sustainability Award at the Fife Partnership Excellence Awards 2012 and has been short listed for Civic Building of the Year by the Society of Chartered Architect's in Local Authorities. The winner will be announced in October 2012.

When did it open?
The new centre opened on Saturday 26 November 2011 and is managed by Fife Sports and Leisure Trust (links to external website) on behalf of Fife Council. Check with Fife Sports and Leisure Trust on the extensive range of facilities and programmes available.
How much is it costing?
Fife Council has invested £17.2 million into the refurbishment. The project was also awarded a grant of £1.1 m from sportscotland’s Sports Facilities Fund (links to external website). £100,000 of this has been used to develop Bruce Street Sports Centre into a dedicated gymnastics training centre operated by Kingdom Gymnastics Trust (links to external website).
