Kelty Primary School is located in the main street of the village of Kelty. Its catchment area includes the whole village and the surrounding landward area. Lochore Meadows Country Park and Blairadam Forest are within walking distance and Benarty Hill and Loch Leven can be reached within five minutes by bus/car.
The original school, opened more than one hundred years ago, has been refurbished and now has a more modern extension to the rear. In recent years, several private housing estates have been developed and the school has a social mix of children. There are plans for further housing developments.
The associated nursery for pre-school children is Clentry Nursery and the associated secondary school is Beath High.
At present, the school has thirteen classes and provides open plan areas for Primary 1 - Primary 2, classrooms for Primary 3 - Primary 7. We have the use of a medway hut which has been used for art and drama. This session there is a hall designated for music and reference library, an Information Technology suite and a large open area, resource rooms (P1-3 and P4-7) and general purpose hall for lunches and drama/P.E. There is extensive use of Information Technology for learning throughout the school and every classroom is fitted with an interactive whiteboard and these are used extensively to support learning and teaching. The school also has timetabled use of the gymnasium in the adjacent community centre. There are various offices for clerical staff, Headteacher, Depute Headteacher, Principal Teachers and Learning Support staff.
There is an extensive playground area. with a multi-user games area and extensive trim-trails on our large grass area. Further grass pitches are available for use in the neighbouring public park.
Areas of focus in the current school development plan are Assessment, Enterprise. Social Subjects and Information Technology. The school has had a good measure of success in raising the attainment of pupils in reading, writing and mathematics.
School clubs run throughout the year and offer badminton, football and eco school club. The school promotes participation in concerts, assemblies and the Fife Festivals of Music, Scottish Country Dance, Creative Dance and Drama. Pupils regulary lead workshops and presentations for parents and the wider community. Primary 6 and Primary 7 children are offered a residential experience at Ardroy Outdoor Education Centre and there is a full programme of out of school education for pupils from Primary 1 Primary 7.
Many individuals and organisations take an active and positive interest in the school. The findings from questionnaires for parents on School Ethos are very encouraging and a good number of parents assist in school on a regular basis.
There is a supportive Parent Council and its sub-group, the Parent Teacher Association, regularly organises fund-raising events.
The school received the prestigious Schools Curriculum Award in the year 2000, the Eco-school Green Flag in 2006 and a Fife Best Practice Award in 2006.
